New Carousels

In recent years, a number of newly-created hand-carved carousels started appearing around the country! These carousels represent the first hand-carved machines to be created in the U.S. and Canada since the golden age of carousels ended in the 1930's.

• A Carousel for Missoula - Missoula, Montana (Opened May, 1995)
  The carousel in Missoula, Montana features 38 hand carved ponies, three replacement ponies, two chariots, 14 gargoyles and the largest band organ in continuous use in the United States.

  Spokane and Missoula are official carousel sister cities, as proclaimed by the mayors of both cities!

• Salem's Riverfront Carousel - Salem Oregon
  Salem, Oregon is the home to a beautiful recently constructed carousel.

• Great Northern Carousel - Helena, Montana
  Ever ridden a carousel fish? How about a leaping carousel frog or rabbit? The Great Northern Carousel in Helena, Montana features a rainbow trout, a triceritops and a buffalo as well as some more traditional carousel animals!

• The Carousel at Pottstown, Pottstown, PA
  There's still time to adopt a carousel animal on The Carousel at Pottstown, which will feature a combination of new and original figures.

• Adirondack Carousel, Saranac Lake, NY
  This one includes a bobcat, bullfrog and . . . a Black Fly?

• Richland Carousel Park, Mansfield, OH- 1991
  This carousel features newly carved Dentzel-style carousel figures and an antique mechanism.

• Heritage Carousel, Des Moines, IA
  This carousel includes a stork, an ostrich, a baby elephant and a panda as well as many other interesting animals!

• Albany Carousel, Albany, OR
  A carousel being built as a community project for Albany, Oregon, to revitalize the downtown area. Their carving shop is manned by volunteers three days a week and is already drawing people downtown to watch the carvers at work.

• North Bay Carousel, North Bay, Ontario, Canada
  Another community project carousel, with a mega-cool web page! (You might need a high-speed internet connection to enjoy it, though.)

• Totally Kid Carousel, New York, NY
  A carousel designed by kids, for kids! You won't believe the animals on this one! (The figures aren't hand-carved wooden figures, but it's included anyway because it's so unique.)
